  Sarah

Sarah, with son Brandon, age 8, had separated from and soon divorced her abusive alcoholic husband.  They came to Colorado on their own to find a better life.  Having been raised out east, Sarah had no family or friends out here.  Though hard-working, honest, responsible, and having strong conviction, Sarah was at a low point; alone, living in fear and doubt, and needing some help.  With determination, she soon found a small-paying full time job, but she and Brandon were sleeping on the floor of a family they met since she couldn’t afford rent and deposit.  A friend of CHF met Sarah and Brandon while they were playing on the swings at a park, and after Sarah poured out her heart, they were referred to CHF.  They were accepted into the program and received housing; their own home to eventually transition out of.

Here they received guidance, counseling, and encouragement, as well as the grace to get their lives back together.  She was given a houseful of furniture, courtesy of furniture donations from our local community.  Sarah found respect and community amidst her hopelessness.  She thrived with the education seminars, support group meetings, and case management offered at CHF, and soon Sarah became an inspiration to other residents with her eagerness to give back.

Sarah is a classy lady with a great attitude, gracious and thankful, and she has progressed dramatically.  With her newfound confidence, she was hired on as a sales and estimating assistant for a reputable construction company, nearly tripling her previous salary.  She graduated from the CHF program in January after purchasing her own home!  While here, she also met and fell in love with a kind man, and they were recently married.  We are so happy for Sarah and are proud of all her hard work.

From a recent letter Sarah wrote to us: “With a home comes a peace and security…  One of the greatest rewards is the security that our children sense…  To sleep peacefully and not live in fear of now knowing where they’ll sleep…  CHF changes lives and changes people for the better for our community.”

Your kindness enables us to provide much-needed transitional housing to families with children in our community who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.  While living here, they are given the time and encouragement they need to make it on their own, to reestablish their lives and financial standing.  Financial contributions like yours help keep the heart of CHF a reality; our program is a solution that, with your backing, helps get our families back on their feet.

Thank you for giving, even amidst the financial crunch our nation is facing.  It means so much to us and our families, and we are so grateful.
